About the Scholarship

The JASSO Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship supports international students in Japan who fund their own studies but show both strong academic standing and financial need.

Degree-level students receive ¥48,000 per month, while students at Japanese language institutes receive ¥30,000 per month. Payments run over a 12-month cycle from April or a 6-month cycle from October, depending on enrolment timing.

The award is nomination-based. Each host institution puts forward a limited number of eligible students according to its own international enrolment, so prospective recipients should speak with their school's international student affairs office rather than applying to JASSO directly.
