About the Scholarship

The Marquis Scholarship is Lafayette College's half-tuition merit award, one step below the Marquis Fellowship. Because it is tied to the published tuition rate rather than a fixed sum, it grows every year. Against tuition of $70,486 for 2026-27, half tuition comes to roughly $35,200.

International applicants qualify. Lafayette's international student FAQ states that international students are eligible to receive merit scholarships, and the admissions committee makes every merit nomination without a separate application.

What it asks of you is a very strong application and nothing more: no scholarship essay, no interview requirement, no extra deadline. The award renews for up to eight semesters provided you keep a 3.00 cumulative average and stay enrolled full time.

For a student who needs more than half of tuition covered, Lafayette adds need-based aid up to the level of demonstrated need for applicants who file the CSS Profile, so the scholarship often sits inside a larger package rather than standing alone.

What It Covers

  • Tuition

Half of tuition, granted annually for up to eight semesters. The value is appended to a set tuition amount and grows with each annual tuition increase, which puts it near $35,200 against the 2026-27 tuition of $70,486. The remaining tuition, housing and food stay with the family, and need-based aid can be added on top.

Eligibility

Offers go to applicants with a strong curriculum, high grades and class rank, and, where submitted, competitive test scores, alongside evidence of intellectual curiosity and community engagement. International students are eligible: the international student FAQ states that international students are eligible to receive merit scholarships. Only first-time applicants are considered. Renewal each year requires a cumulative grade average of 3.00 and full-time enrolment.
