About the Scholarship

Luther College awards $3,000 to $7,000 a year on musical talent, regardless of the student's major.

Its international standing rests on an absence rather than a statement, and the absence is telling: the college's sibling Herseth award, which covers full tuition, explicitly restricts auditions to students in the United States, while this one carries no such limit. That contrast is the evidence.

Only the highest single talent award is paid, and talent and academic awards together are capped at $50,000 a year.

What It Covers

  • Tuition

$3,000 to $7,000 a year, $12,000 to $28,000 across four years. Only the highest single talent award is paid, and talent plus academic awards are capped at $50,000 a year together.

Eligibility

Musical talent, assessed by audition, regardless of major. Renewal runs eight semesters with satisfactory academic progress, enrolment in a qualifying ensemble and one credit of applied lessons, which carry an extra charge.

Eligible Countries

The college's international page states it offers scholarships and awards based on musical talent regardless of chosen major. This award's own page sets no residency restriction, while its sibling Herseth award explicitly limits auditions to students in the United States, so the absence here is meaningful.
