About the Scholarship

The Banach Scholarship Programme is Poland's government scholarship for master's study, run by the National Agency for Academic Exchange and named after the mathematician Stefan Banach.

It pays a monthly scholarship for up to twelve months of each academic year and exempts the holder from tuition at Polish public universities, with a one-off travel lump sum on top. Students on the Polish-taught track can choose a funded one-year preparatory course before their studies, or start directly if they already have B2 Polish; students on English-taught programmes take a Polish language and culture course instead.

Two details catch applicants out. NAWA does not arrange university admission, so you must apply to the university yourself and prove you have done so. And the call can close before its published deadline, because recruitment runs in four country groups and each group closes once it reaches its application cap.

A tuition waiver at private universities is not guaranteed and has to be negotiated with the institution.

Eligibility and graduation requirements verified on 19 September 2026 against section 2.2 of the Banach 2026 call. These dates apply to the closed 2026 call; applicants must check the next call for its graduation window.

What It Covers

  • Tuition
  • Living stipend
  • Travel
  • Language training

A monthly scholarship of PLN 2,500 for up to twelve months per academic year, exemption from tuition fees at Polish public universities and at NAWA preparatory courses, a one-off travel lump sum, and, for the Polish-taught track, the option of a funded one-year preparatory course before studies begin (or a Polish language and culture course for the English-taught track). A tuition waiver at private universities is not guaranteed.

Eligibility

For the 2026 call, a first-cycle degree obtained in a programme country in 2024 or later, or final-semester first-cycle studies in a programme country with the degree obtained by 15 July 2026, with no prior master's degree (except a master's or equivalent from a country without a common two-cycle study system) and no previous NAWA second-cycle scholarship. Language requirements are Polish at B1 for the preparatory-course track, Polish at B2 for direct Polish-taught study, and English at B2 for English-taught study. Applications include a diploma with grade average, proof of taking part in a Polish university's admission process, a language certificate and a self-presentation video of one to three minutes. NAWA does not arrange admission, so applicants apply to the university separately.

Eligible Countries

Citizens of the 36 programme countries, who must not hold Polish citizenship or have applied for it. Recruitment is organised in four country groups, each with its own application pool.
