The Dean's Scholarship covers tuition at Spelman for four academic years. It is aimed at students who combine academic distinction with a record of service to other people.
Tuition is the largest single line on the bill, so this award changes the arithmetic considerably. Housing, meals, fees and flights remain yours to fund, which matters because Spelman offers international students merit scholarships and no need-based aid.
Applying for admission is all that is required. The Office of Admissions reviews grades, test scores if submitted, community service and leadership, then notifies recipients with their acceptance letter.
Spelman is a historically Black liberal arts college for women in Atlanta. Spelman also publishes a Dewitt Dean's Scholarship covering full tuition for four years, so ask Admissions which fund you have been offered if the letter is unclear.
