Beca Mexico cuts what a Mexican student pays at the University of New Mexico to one and a half times the in-state rate, a saving the university puts at $17,957 a year.
The academic bar is the lowest of the university's three international awards at a 2.5 grade average, which makes it the accessible route for Mexican applicants who would not clear the Amigo or Leadership thresholds.
Only one university scholarship can be held at a time, so this replaces rather than supplements the others.
