About the Scholarship

The Presidential Scholarship is the University of Scranton's highest merit award, covering full tuition. The university describes the number available as limited, which places it at the top of a four-step merit ladder that runs down through the Dean's, Loyola and Faber Scholarships.

International applicants are considered. Scranton's international application information page states that all accepted students are automatically evaluated for academic merit scholarships and that no special applications are required, with the amount confirmed in the acceptance letter.

That makes the effort involved straightforward. There is no scholarship essay, no interview and no separate deadline: the strength of your admissions application decides it. Students applying without SAT or ACT scores are still evaluated for merit aid.

The gap to plan for is everything outside tuition. Housing, food and fees at a residential university in Pennsylvania add a substantial sum each year, so a full-tuition award still needs family funds or additional aid behind it.

What It Covers

  • Tuition

Full tuition at the University of Scranton. Housing, food, fees and travel stay with the family, and other aid would need to cover those.

Eligibility

Open to accepted first-year applicants on the strength of the admissions application alone. The university states that a limited number of full-tuition Presidential Scholarships are available, so this is the top of a competitive merit ladder rather than a broad award. International students are in scope: Scranton's international application information page states that all accepted students are automatically evaluated for academic merit scholarships and that no special applications are required. Applicants who leave out test scores are still considered.

How to Apply

No scholarship application. The university evaluates every accepted student for academic merit scholarships from the completed admissions application, and students receiving a merit scholarship are told the amount in their acceptance letter.
