The Barcelona International Youth Science Challenge (BIYSC) is a two-week international residential science program for high-achieving secondary students, organized by Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera with support from Fundació Víctor Grifols and collaboration with the BIST Scientific Community. Held annually in Barcelona, Spain, BIYSC offers approximately 150 participants from over 35 nationalities the opportunity to engage in hands-on research at leading universities, research centers, and hospitals. Students choose from 16 different projects across six disciplines — Chemistry, Engineering, Life Sciences, Mathematics & Computer Science, Medicine, and Physics — accumulating over 55 hours of laboratory experience working alongside professional researchers. Beyond the lab, the program includes scientific lectures from leading researchers, visits to cutting-edge research facilities, and cultural and social activities, all while developing intercultural communication, science presentation skills, and professional networking capabilities.
