About the Scholarship

Five awards a year in total: one Global Scholar Award covering full tuition, worth around $38,000, and four Global Scholar Fellowships of $30,000 each. Both are for incoming international first-year students, and both replace the merit scholarship already attached to an offer rather than stacking on top of it.

What stays uncovered is the part that decides whether the award is usable. Housing, meals, required fees and insurance are not included, and for 2025-26 Maryville put the remaining annual bill at $15,674 for an Award holder and $24,044 for a Fellowship holder. Proof of funding for the balance is a condition of being considered at all, not a formality afterwards: the College states that an applicant without sufficient funds will not be considered.

Two deadlines, in this order. Admission to Maryville College by 15 January, which the College explains is what leaves time to review the file. Then the Award application itself by 1 February, available only through the MaryVille Portal once admitted.

The application asks for three essays under 250 words each, a one-page resume and a reference who can speak to leadership or academic ability. Two of the three essays are about what the applicant will do on campus, one asking for a plan for sharing their culture and one for evidence that they can carry such a plan out.

The conditions carry through all four years. Holders must live on campus for the full period, keep F-1 status, give two hours a week to the Center for Global Engagement and hold a 3.0 GPA. The award does not rise with tuition, so increases above the current rate fall to the student.

The Global Scholar Award page was checked on 16 September 2026. Figures for the remaining cost of attendance were current for 2025-26 at that time.

What It Covers

  • Tuition

One Global Scholar Award is offered each year, covering the full cost of tuition and worth approximately $38,000, and four Global Scholar Fellowships of $30,000 are offered alongside it. Either replaces the merit scholarship already offered with admission. Both renew for up to four years while the holder keeps F-1 status, completes two hours of service a week with the Center for Global Engagement and maintains a 3.0 GPA. Annual increases above tuition are not available. Housing, meals, required fees and insurance are not covered: for 2025-26 Maryville put the remaining annual cost paid to the College at $15,674 for an Award holder and $24,044 for a Fellowship holder.

Eligibility

Be a first-year international applicant who is neither a United States citizen nor a resident, with a complete Maryville College application for admission submitted. Selection looks for a demonstrated record of outstanding academic achievement, character and leadership, a clear plan for enriching and leading within the international community on campus, excellent organisational and communication skills, and a readiness to encourage others to apply in future. Holders must live on campus for the full four years. Proof of funding must already be on file covering the remaining cost of attendance, which Maryville puts at $18,494 for an Award recipient and $26,864 for a Fellowship recipient in 2025-26. The College states plainly that an applicant without sufficient funds for the remaining costs will not be considered. Renewal requires F-1 status, two hours of service a week with the Center for Global Engagement and a minimum 3.0 GPA.

How to Apply

Apply for admission to Maryville College first, by the 15 January admissions deadline, which is what gives the College time to review the file. The separate Global Scholar Award application then becomes available to admitted students through the MaryVille Portal and is due by 1 February. It carries a one-page professional resume, a letter of recommendation from an advisor, teacher or other authority who can speak to leadership or academic ability, and three short essays of under 250 words each: how studying at Maryville will advance academic and career goals, a plan for sharing the applicant's culture on campus, and previous experiences that show the plan can be carried out. Proof of funding covering $18,500 to $27,000 must already have been submitted with the admission application, or emailed to international@maryvillecollege.edu.
