The Ozanam Scholars Program at St. John's University in New York puts small groups of students with faculty members to work on problems facing local, national and international communities. Scholars receive up to a $10,000 scholarship, renewable each year for the four-year programme.
It is for incoming first-year students, and St. John's names it among the awards available to first-year international students. That naming matters, because the University also states plainly that it has no financial aid available for international students, so its scholarships are the route.
The effort is a separate application on top of your admission application, filed through your online student portal. The window for the current intake has closed, so watch the Application Scholarships page for the autumn 2027 dates.
Up to $10,000 a year is a contribution rather than a solution at a New York private university, so pair it with the merit scholarship your admission application is automatically reviewed for, and budget for the rest.
