Winthrop calls this its most prestigious award for international students, though the cash attached is small: $250 a semester, $500 a year.
The money that matters is the out-of-state grant bundled with it, which the university does not put a figure on beyond saying it cannot exceed the out-of-state portion of tuition. At Winthrop's published rate that is worth several thousand dollars a year.
It is a working award. Recipients give 30 hours of service a semester to the international centre, and losing that commitment means losing both the scholarship and the grant. It is recorded with no merit or need basis because selection turns on serving as an ambassador.
