About the Scholarship

Winthrop pays international transfer students $1,500 a year on this band and waives the out-of-state portion of tuition on top, which it values together at about $15,540 a year.

The third of four transfer bands.

The waiver, not the cash, is what makes these worth having, and it moves with your credit load rather than being fixed. A Phi Theta Kappa award of $1,000 can be added on top for out-of-state transfers.

What It Covers

  • Tuition

$1,500 a year in cash plus a waiver of the out-of-state portion of tuition worth $14,040, which the university values together at $15,540 a year. The waiver is capped at the out-of-state portion of tuition, $468 a credit hour for 2026 to 2027, and moves with actual enrolment, so the $14,040 figure assumes 30 credit hours a year. Renewable for up to two further years on satisfactory academic progress. Students in the professional studies or competency-based programmes are not eligible, and the university may cancel awards if tuition is covered from another source. These are its 2026 to 2027 figures; it states 2027 to 2028 values arrive in late autumn 2026.

Eligibility

Transfer entry with a cumulative grade average of 3.25, calculated across all college coursework excluding remedial, developmental and vocational courses. At least 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours must be completed, with full-time enrolment of 12 or more credit hours each semester.

Eligible Countries

The university states it offers academic and talent scholarships to qualified domestic and international students, lists transfer scholarships under its scholarships for international students, defines international students as F-1 and J-1 visa holders, and notes all tuition and fees for them are assessed at the out-of-state rate, which is the column used here.
