Apple Swift Student Challenge

About the Program

Apple recognizes student app playgrounds for innovation, creativity, social impact, or inclusivity. Its current Distinguished Winner page describes a three-day visit to Apple in Cupertino, with travel and lodging included. A Swift Student Challenge award can be received up to three times; Distinguished Winner selection is limited to once.

The published 2026 terms permit task-specific AI assistance with full disclosure, while requiring substantial individual contribution and technical understanding. Application essays must be written by the applicant. Third-party material requires appropriate licenses, credit, and an explanation of its use.

For applicants below the regional minimum age, a legal guardian can request discretionary permission at swiftstudentchallenge@apple.com. The standard minimum remains 13, with higher thresholds in the countries listed above.

Eligibility

Applicants cannot be employed full time as developers and need free Apple Developer registration or program membership. At submission, qualify through enrollment or graduation within 90 days from an accredited institution, official homeschool equivalent, or Apple Developer Academy; enrollment in a legally recognized nonprofit STEM organization's curriculum; or high-school graduation within six months while awaiting or holding acceptance to an accredited institution. Individual work only; one app playground per applicant. Minimum 14 in Austria, Bulgaria, China mainland, Cyprus, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, South Korea, and Spain; 15 in Czechia, France, Greece, Peru, and Slovenia; 16 in Brazil, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Kosovo, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Singapore, and Slovakia; 13 elsewhere. Apple may grant younger applicants permission following a guardian's request.

All countries Worldwide, subject to Apple's regional age and eligibility rules; void where prohibited.

How to Apply

Build an English-language app playground (.swiftpm) using Swift Playground 4.6 or Xcode 26 or later. It must work offline, include resources locally, fit in a ZIP of at most 25 MB, and be experienced within three minutes. When submissions open, apply at https://developer.apple.com/swift-student-challenge/apply/ with your own written responses, enrollment proof, and dean/principal contact details.
