The Boston Leadership Institute Applied Physics & Engineering program is a 3-week hands-on residential summer program held at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Students explore aeronautics and aerospace technologies through building, testing, and analyzing model aircraft, rockets, and gliders.
Curriculum:
- Newton's laws of motion, force, acceleration, centripetal force, and g-force
- Aircraft dynamics: thrust, lift, drag, and weight
- Construction and testing of model airplanes, gliders, and rockets
- Component analysis: ailerons, rudders, and control surfaces
Field trips: Canobie Lake Park (physics of theme park rides) and New England Air Museum (cockpit experiences, weather and flight).
Cost: $2,500 tuition + $2,097 residential fee (~$4,600 total). Competitive admissions; application required.
