About the Program

The World Food Day Poster Contest is a free annual art competition organized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Open to participants ages 5–19 from any country, it invites young people to interpret the year's World Food Day theme through an original poster.

Recognition:

From each age category, 15 posters are shortlisted (each receiving a certificate). A jury selects three finalists per category, who are promoted on FAO social media and by FAO offices and receive a Certificate of Recognition and a gift bag.

About World Food Day:

World Food Day is observed on October 16 each year to mark the founding of the FAO in 1945. It raises awareness of food security and sustainable agriculture worldwide.

Eligibility

Open to children and youth ages 5–19 from any country. Four age categories: 5–8, 9–12, 13–15, and 16–19. Participants under 18 require parental or guardian permission. Submissions must be original posters created through drawing, painting, mixed media, or digital art — photographs are not accepted. Generative AI may not be used to create artwork, though it may be used for ideation if disclosed. Text is optional and limited to 25 words or 100 characters. Entries must reflect the annual World Food Day theme.

How to Apply

Submit your poster through the contest page at fao.org/world-food-day/contest during the entry window (July 1 – November 6, 2026). Participation is free. Shortlisted participants are notified in December 2026.
