About the Scholarship

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program brings graduate students, young professionals, and artists from abroad to study and conduct research in the United States. Around 4,000 students receive Fulbright grants each year.

The program is run country by country through bilateral Fulbright Commissions and Foundations, or through US Embassies where no Commission exists. Eligibility criteria, required test scores, and deadlines therefore differ by country, and applicants must consult their own country's Fulbright page.

Selected grantees either work with a placement team that applies to universities on their behalf or apply directly to US institutions themselves. Grants typically cover tuition, a living stipend, airfare, and health benefits for the duration of the award.

Country eligibility is subject to the provider's published requirements, checked on 12 September 2026.

Eligibility

Applicants need a bachelor's degree or equivalent, must live in their country of nomination, and need English strong enough for full-time US graduate study. Degrees in clinical medicine, dentistry, nursing, and pharmacy are generally excluded. Requirements differ by country.
