About the Scholarship

The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships fund sixty students a year for one year of postgraduate study in Ireland, in a partnership between the government and the Irish higher education institutions, managed by the Higher Education Authority.

Each award combines a EUR 10,000 stipend with a full waiver of the tuition fee and registration charge by the host institution, so the fee side is covered in full while the stipend is described as a contribution to living costs. No institution may receive more than five awards, and the twelve highest-ranked applications are funded automatically.

Eligibility is postgraduate only, at taught master's, postgraduate diploma, research master's or doctoral level, and applicants must already hold an offer from an eligible Irish institution as an international fee-paying student before applying for the scholarship.

The award covers one academic year and is not extendable, although an institution may choose to extend the fee waiver for a three-semester course.

Eligibility verified on 19 September 2026 against the HEA eligibility rules.
