About the Scholarship

Kent State gives every admitted international undergraduate a Global Scholarship, from $4,300 a year at the bottom band to $15,000 plus a $2,000 Honors Scholarship for those admitted to the Honors College.

The floor is what makes this unusual. A student with a grade average below 3.49 still receives $4,300, and even English language and visiting students get that figure with a full course load. Most American merit tables pay nothing below their lowest threshold.

Three limits. It is for the Kent campus only, not the regional campuses; it applies to undergraduate coursework only; and the deadline is the date you must be admitted by, not the date you apply. The university says plainly that its international scholarships are partial and do not cover full tuition, fees and living costs.

Tiered by grade average on the American 4.0 scale: $15,000 a year plus a $2,000 Honors Scholarship for Honors College entrants, $12,000 at 3.70 and above, $10,000 at 3.60 to 3.69, $7,000 at 3.50 to 3.59, and $4,300 at 3.49 and below. English language and visiting students receive $4,300 with at least 12 credit hours. Out-of-state tuition and fees are $24,298, and the university states its international scholarships are partial and do not cover full tuition, fees and living costs.

Eligibility

Admission as an incoming international undergraduate at the Kent campus, with the band set by grade average. Renewal needs continuous in-person full-time enrolment of at least 12 credit hours a semester and good academic standing, for eight semesters as a first-year entrant or up to eight for transfers depending on credits transferred.

Eligible Countries

The university states the award is available to all incoming international undergraduate degree-seeking students who have been admitted, holding an F-1 visa, as first-year or transfer students. Graduate students, current students, in-state residents and students on partnership tuition rates are excluded.

How to Apply

No separate application. Students are considered automatically on admission, but must be admitted by the cut-off for their intake: 1 July for autumn, 1 November for spring and 1 March for summer.
