About the Scholarship

Mississippi State pays international first-year students $12,000 to $19,000 a year on grade average alone, awarded automatically on admission.

The structure changed recently and the change matters. The university dropped test scores from its academic tiers, and older PDFs still on its own site show a test-score table topping out at $22,000. Those are superseded; the current page is tiered on grades and tops out at $19,000.

Two conditions catch people. The student must be assessed non-resident tuition to receive it, and international students with active agent contracts are ineligible for scholarship consideration at all.

What It Covers

  • Tuition

$12,000 a year at a grade average of 3.30 to 3.59, $16,000 from 3.60 to 4.09, and $19,000 at 4.10 and above, so $48,000 to $76,000 across four years. These are the university's figures for students entering in the 2027 to 2028 year. Older university PDFs still circulate showing a test-score-tiered table topping out at $22,000; that structure has been replaced. The student must be assessed non-resident tuition to receive it, and it cannot be combined with non-resident charge waivers or the university's National Merit and Presidential Endowed packages. International students with active agent contracts are ineligible. The university notes the amounts may combine institutional and private awards.

Eligibility

A grade average of at least 3.30 across the ninth to eleventh years, using the higher of the six-semester transcript average and the university's own calculated core average. Renewable for up to four years or eight semesters on a college grade average of 3.0 and continuous full-time enrolment of 12 credit hours a semester, checked at the end of each spring.

Eligible Countries

The university states it automatically awards academic scholarships to eligible international students, and publishes these non-resident awards on its international scholarships page. It has no international-exclusive awards; international students receive the non-resident awards.
