The Augsbury/North Country Scholarship has run at St. Lawrence University since 1974. It recognises academic and extracurricular leaders at a designated list of high schools in northern New York State and in Canada.
Named ANCS Scholars receive up to $50,000 for each of their four years, $200,000 in total. Nominees who are admitted without being named Scholars still receive at least $35,000 a year, $140,000 over four years, which makes a nomination worth pursuing on its own.
Two things gate it. Your high school has to be on the designated list, and your counsellor has to nominate you by 1 December of your senior year, the same date your application is due. The academic bar is a 90 unweighted cumulative average at the end of eleventh grade, or 80 for students at Canadian high schools, in a demanding curriculum. Keeping the award needs a 3.0 average at St. Lawrence.
Decisions usually go out around 15 December, so this is one of the earlier answers you will get in a U.S. application cycle.
