About the Scholarship

The Canadian Scholars Program is St. Lawrence University's award for Canadian students coming to the United States. It is worth $25,000 to $50,000 USD a year, which the University puts at $100,000 to $200,000 across four years.

St. Lawrence sits in Canton, New York, 35 minutes from Cornwall, Ontario and 90 minutes from Ottawa, so for many Canadian families this is a close-to-home option priced in U.S. dollars.

The award asks for academic excellence and for leadership you can describe concretely, in school, in service or anywhere you have put in substantive time. Finalists come to campus for a visit and an interview, so prepare to talk about that work.

The extra effort is one essay. Alongside the Common Application or the St. Lawrence Application, you file the Canadian Scholarship Application Essay. Applying from Canada is free and test scores are optional. The catch worth knowing: St. Lawrence awards one merit or specialty scholarship per student, the highest in value, and gives no travel assistance.

What It Covers

  • Tuition

A scholarship of $25,000 to $50,000 USD per year, with four-year totals of $100,000 to $200,000 USD, credited against St. Lawrence charges. Housing, meals, insurance, books and travel stay with the student, and St. Lawrence does not grant travel assistance.

Eligibility

Incoming first-year Canadian students who wish to study in the United States. The programme seeks students who have excelled academically and shown leadership in some compelling way in their communities, whether school-related, service-related or any other avenue in which the student has invested substantive time. Selection is competitive and finalists are invited to campus for a personalised visit and interview. St. Lawrence also states that international students, including those from Canada, are eligible for the same merit scholarships as U.S. students, and that only one merit or specialty scholarship is awarded per student, the highest in value.

Eligible Countries

St. Lawrence states this scholarship opportunity is only for Canadian students. Priority goes to incoming first-year students attending Canadian high schools, and Canadian students at American high schools may be considered on a space-available basis.
