About the Scholarship

Transylvania University pays international first-year students $25,000 to $34,000 a year on a published grid of grade average against test score.

The grid is keyed to the ACT or SAT, which many international applicants will not have taken. The university addresses that directly, offering a holistic review for applicants who are not on the grid, weighing academic performance, leadership, extracurricular involvement and community engagement instead.

Its Premier programme, which covers full tuition, fees, housing and meals, is closed to international students. The university states plainly that it does not offer fully funded or need-based aid to them, so this grid is the ceiling.

What It Covers

  • Tuition

A grid running from $25,000 a year at a 3.0 grade average with an ACT of 21, through $28,000 at 3.6, $30,000 at 3.9, $32,000 at 4.0 with an ACT of 28, to $34,000 at 4.0 and above with an ACT of 30. Tuition and fees are $50,640 and the full cost of attendance $69,974. The university's own hub phrases the ceiling differently; the figures here come from its cohort-dated scholarships page.

Eligibility

Entry as a first-year student, assessed on weighted grade average and the ACT or SAT superscore. Applicants who do not fit the grid are considered through a holistic review weighing academic performance, leadership, extracurricular involvement and community engagement. English proficiency is required: a TOEFL of 80, IELTS of 6, Duolingo of 105, PTE of 52, IB English of 24 or above, or an SAT reading score of 600 to 700. The university says most scholarships renew for up to four years on academic progress.

Eligible Countries

The university states international students may be eligible for partial merit-based scholarships, that only American citizens and permanent residents are considered for need-based aid, and that it does not offer fully funded or need-based aid to international students.
