About the Scholarship

The Presidential Scholarship is the band of the University of New Hampshire's merit table covering a recalculated grade average of 3.70 to 3.89, worth up to $12,000 a year to an international student.

International applicants sit in the non-resident column by definition, because citizenship supersedes residency at the university, and no federal aid form is involved. The award is made automatically with the admission decision, and a student can hold only one merit award a year.

Two things to watch. The university recalculates every applicant's grade average on its own weighted scale from core academic subjects, so your own transcript average will not map cleanly onto these bands. And every figure is published as a ceiling, so treat it as the most the band can pay rather than a guaranteed amount.

Tuition

Up to $12,000 a year at the non-resident rate that applies to international students. New Hampshire residents receive up to $7,000. The university publishes these as ceilings rather than fixed amounts.

Eligibility

Entry as a first-year student, with the band set by a grade average the university recalculates itself on a weighted 4.0 scale from core academic subjects. Renewal runs up to eight consecutive semesters at 12 or more credits, needs a cumulative 3.20 by the end of the fourth semester, and is reduced by $500 for a semester following disciplinary action.

How to Apply

No separate application. Every admitted student is considered automatically, and only one merit award is made a year. The operative dates are the admission deadlines: 15 November for early action and 1 February for regular decision.
