The International Amigo Scholarship drops non-resident tuition at the University of New Mexico to the in-state rate for international undergraduates. The university estimates the saving at more than $27,000 a year.
Because it works as a rate reduction rather than a cash award, there is nothing to disburse and no separate application. Every undergraduate applicant is considered automatically against three qualifying routes based on grade average, test scores or transferable credits.
First-year students can hold it for up to four years and transfers for two, with 15 credit hours a semester and a 2.5 grade average required.
