Winona State pays $1,000 per academic year to transfer students who belong to Phi Theta Kappa, the community college honour society, hold a 3.5 GPA and have finished an associate degree or the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum.
The university names this award among the scholarships international students are eligible to receive, so it reaches international students finishing a two-year degree at a United States community college.
It is narrow by design. A student applying from school abroad cannot hold Phi Theta Kappa membership, so the route runs through a community college first, then transfer to Winona State where the Cross-Cultural Scholarship also applies.
